When placing a trade, you might occasionally see the message “invalid S/L or T/P” and it usually means there's a mistake in how your stop loss or take profit has been set. This is a common issue, especially for newer traders, but it’s easy to fix once you understand the cause.
What Causes This Error?
One reason for this error is incorrect placement. Most trading platforms, including Bullwaves, require a minimum distance between your current market price and the stop loss (S/L) or take profit (T/P) level. If your S/L or T/P is set too close, the system will block the order.
Another frequent cause is setting the levels on the wrong side of the trade. Here's how they should be positioned:
For buy orders
: the stop loss must be set
below
the entry price, and the take profit should be
above
it.
For sell orders
: the stop loss must be
above
the entry price, and the take profit should be
below
it.
Setting them the other way around will trigger the error.
To avoid this issue, double-check your levels before confirming the trade and ensure you respect the platform’s minimum distance requirements.ì
