Why Can’t I Trade Certain Products on MetaTrader?

If you're unable to place trades on specific products within MT4 or MT5, there are a few common reasons this might happen. Understanding how MetaTrader handles account access, product availability, and trading conditions can help you resolve the issue quickly.

Common Reasons for Trade Restrictions

One of the first things to check is your login status. If you see an "Invalid Account" message, it usually means that your account number or password is incorrect. Additionally, if the “New Order” button is grayed out, you may have logged in using a read-only (investor) password, or your login attempt may have failed entirely.

Another common reason involves product availability. Not all instruments are available across every account type. If you're not seeing a particular product, it could be due to account restrictions or platform filters. You can right-click on the Market Watch panel and select "Show All" to view the full list of available instruments for your account.

Also, make sure you're attempting to trade within the product’s active trading hours. To verify this, right-click on the product name, select “Specification,” and check the listed trading schedule.

Lastly, ensure your account has sufficient margin. If your free margin is too low, the platform will prevent the trade from being executed, especially on high-margin products.
